2007 OFFICIAL DERBY RULES
The Derby judges will not enter fish if the rules are not followed. Personnel at the weigh-in stations may not make exceptions to the rules.
PLEASE READ THE RULES CAREFULLY, ESPECIALLY WITH RESPECT TO CHECK-IN
1. DATE AND FEES
a) The first Derby weekend commences at 7:00 AM, Saturday, May 26, 2007, continuing 62 hours until Monday, May 28, 2007 at 9:00 PM.
b) The second Derby weekend commences at 7:00 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2007 continuing for 38 hours until Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 9:00 PM.
c) The third Derby weekend commences at 7:00 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2007 continuing for 38 hours until Sunday, June 10, 2007t 9:00 PM which represents the end of the 60th annual Ketchikan King Salmon 2007 Derby.
d) Derby judges will operate weigh-in stations UNTIL 9:00 PM EACH Derby Day. POSITIVELY NO ENTRY WILL BE ACCEPTED BEYOND THIS TIME. Fish not on the weigh-in dock by 9:00 PM can be entered the following day, if that day is an authorized Derby Day. No entries will be accepted prior to 7:00 AM each Derby Day.
e) The Derby Committee assumes no responsibility for changes in schedules beyond their control.
f) Single ticket price is $30. Family ticket price is $50 and includes spouse and children under the age of 16 years.
2. FISHING AREAS
a) Areas open for fishing are as listed in the Derby Boundaries description and on the map in the official Derby Brochure.
b) ANY FISH KNOWN TO BE CAUGHT OUTSIDE OF DERBY BOUNDARIES WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED AS WELL AS THE ANGLER SUBMITTING THE ENTRY.
3. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
a) Each contestant must have their Derby ticket punched at an official weigh-in station prior to fishing each weekend. TICKET PUNCHING WILL BE AVAILABLE AT 6:45 AM THE SATURDAY OF EACH DERBY WEEKEND. TICKET PUNCHING WILL BE AVAILABLE AT 7:00 AM THE OTHER DERBY DAYS.
b) Fish entered on Derby Days are the property of the individual contestant.
c) Each contestant is limited to the use of one sport rod and reel, (per current Alaska Department of Fish and Game Sport Fishing Regulations).
d) CONTESTANTS MUST HOOK AND PLAY EVERY FISH UNAIDED, except for gaffing or netting.
e) Entries must be caught according to Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations. All contestants 16 years of age and older must be in possession of a valid Alaska Sport Fishing License and a King Salmon stamp unless the angler holds an Alaska Department of Fish & Game Permanent Fishing License. Contestants must comply with all State and Federal fishing regulations; i.e., bag, size and possession limits. Contestants are prohibited from fishing from a boat with commercial gear in use or engaged in commercial fishing. A derby contestant may not enter a derby fish on the same day that he or she has been commercial fishing.
f) CONTESTANTS ARE URGED TO DISPLAY SPORTSMAN-LIKE CONDUCT AT ALL TIMES. A CONTESTANT WHO INTERFERES WITH ANOTHER ANGLER IN ANY MANNER WILL BE SUBJECT TO DISQUALIFICATION.
g) Non-contestants may ride in the same boat as derby contestants, but are prohibited from fishing.
h) All entries must have a bona fide witness at least seven years of age present at the time of weigh-in for verification of weight.
i) All photographs taken by judges at the time of weigh-in become the sole property of the Ketchikan King Salmon Derby and may be used in future promotional materials.
j) All members of Ketchikan CHARR King Salmon Derby Committee and the King Salmon Derby Judges are eligible to participate in the Derby.
k) The Ketchikan King Salmon Derby and others participating in the sponsorship of this Derby accept no responsibility for damages or injuries sustained by contestants. As a condition of and in consideration of the acceptance of their entries therein, all contestants and their parents or guardians shall be deemed to agree and assume all risks of injury to the competitor’s property and person, resulting from, caused by, or connected with the conduct and management of the competition, and to release any and all claims which they may have against officials, the Ketchikan King Salmon Derby and organizations that take part in the sponsorship of this Derby. Participation accepted only on these conditions.
l) Only lawful sport fishing tackle may be used. Spearing of fish not allowed.
m) THE DECISIONS OF THE DERBY COMMITTEE AND THEIR JUDGES ARE FINAL IN ANY CONTESTED MATTER.
4. PRIZES
a) Contestants are limited to one ladder prize, EXCLUSIVE OF daily prizes. The first fish entered will have priority on the prize lists in the case of identical weights. Winners will be notified.
b) FISH ENTERED IN ANY OTHER PUBLIC DERBY WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY IN THE KETCHIKAN KING SALMON DERBY.
c) Prizes in the prize list must be accepted as offered, in the order won.
d) Prizes must be collected within 60 days after they are awarded.
e) THE DERBY COMMITTEE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR UNCOLLECTABLE PRIZES.
f) The values shown on the prize list are approximate only. The Derby Committee will not be held responsible for donors' estimated values.
g) IRS 1099 forms will be issued at the time of accepting prizes to contestants receiving prizes with the value of $600 or greater.
